FLU SEASON
Flu season will soon be upon us. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. The flu vaccines will be available some time ariund MID April and patients over the age of 65 are eligible to receive their vaccines free of charge. Patients with certain medical conditions may also be eligible but you will need to confrirm this with your GP. Please book an appointment if you wish to take part in this vaccination program.
Flu symptoms include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Headaches
- Severe Cough
- Muscle aches and pains
- Sore throat
- Children may also experience nausea, vomitting and diarrhoea
If you have a sore throat, runny nose and sneezing without high fever, cough, headache and muscular ache, you are probably suffering a common cold. Most Australian adults contract a cold two to three times per year. Influenza strikes only once every five years or less. Children contract six to ten colds per year yet only 30% become infected with influenza.
